Zzzzzzz part 2

France vs. Australia

I don’t mean to steal Johnatron’s Friday posting thunder, but speaking of the new Cut Copy what the hell is up with Australia? They’ve been gettin’ it so right for the past year: Van She, The Presets, New Young Pony Club etc. I would love to see a dance floor knock down drag out bloodbath between the Ed Banger mafia and the Modularites. I predict it would sound a little like the latest purveyor of Aussie awesomeness to hit my ears (and who I must share with thee) called KNIGHTLIFE:

MP3: KNIGHTLIFE via Discodust
KNIGHTLIFE on the Myspace thing, where grammar is for chumps.

Also: I wrote a post about Goth a few weeks ago. I was kind of joking but kind of not. And now guess what, according to our log file stats, has become the #1 Google search term that brings people to The Workout? If I may quote the lovely Emily Strange from Client (who was describing how Luxxury was a welcome break from the typical sound at their Being Boiled night in London) it’s the following:

GOTH GOTH GOTH GOTH GOTH GOTH GOTH GOTH.

There. That ought to solve matters.

Yeah, bang on (forgive the pun) regarding Australia’s dance revolution of sorts. Quite incredible really. I’m happy with material from all over the place though…San Francisco, Paris, Montreal…it’s all great!

Oh, and “goth is dead.” hahahahaha. Greatest t-shirt ever. So funny.

I have a not-fully-thought-through theory that most successful ’scenes’ can be boiled down essentially one person with a rare blend of creative/A+R skills, a talent for promotion and networking, and just plain charisma to put all the pieces together: Warhol, McLaren, James Murphy, etc.

For example I get the feeling that if there was no Busy P Nu French Disco wouldn’t be the cultural phenomenon that it has become. I’m not sure if Pavlovic deserves a similar amount of credit for creating his Modular keiretsu but I don’t think it’s just ’something in the water.’

Out of curiosity, what are you liking in our little Frisco Yay Area?

Update –

I just emailed with Knightlife, who told me he just got signed! That means two things: 1. check back here for release info soon and 2. the MP3s alluded to in my post are no longer available for you on Discodust. You snooze you lose.
